The Hubei Engineering Research Center for Agricultural Blockchain and Intelligent Management is a research team based on modern information technologies such as blockchain, big data, and mobile Internet, with the capabilities of basic research, applied basic research, and certain new practical technology development. In 2004, South-Central Minzu University established the "Institute of Computer Applications" based on the College of Computer Science to conduct basic research and applied basic research on enterprise informatization and provide informatization services for enterprises. In 2021, it was approved by the Hubei Provincial Development and Reform Commission as the Hubei Engineering Research Center for Agricultural Blockchain and Intelligent Management.

In recent years, the center has jointly undertaken more than 30 national science and technology research projects, 863 projects, national science and technology support plans, and more than 80 enterprise commissioned projects with more than 10 million yuan in scientific research funds, 73 authorized invention patents, 2 international PCT patents, 47 software copyrights, and more than 200 published papers with many organizations such as domestic and foreign universities, research institutes, and enterprises.

The scientific research results transformation service radiates 21 provinces and cities including Hubei, Hunan, Henan, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Guangdong, Guangxi, Sichuan, Liaoning, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Guizhou, etc., covering multiple agricultural fields, including tea, vegetables, fruits, rice, animal husbandry, honey, etc. The transformation results play an important role in enterprises and have been widely praised.

The "Organic Selenium Tea Quality Management and Traceability Intelligent System" developed by the Engineering Center passed the Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Achievement Appraisal in 2016, and the appraisal conclusion was at the international advanced level. In 2017, the "Wuling Mountain Area Tea Quality Safety Visualization Traceability Big Data Service Platform Development and Application" project won the second prize of Hubei Science and Technology Progress. "Smart Agriculture Big Data Service Cloud Platform Application and Promotion" won the second prize of Hubei Science and Technology Achievement Promotion Award in 2021. "Key Technologies and Applications for Digital Construction of the Whole Industrial Chain of County-level Characteristic Agricultural Products" won the third prize of Hubei Science and Technology Progress in 2022. In 2017, 9 central media including People's Daily, Guangming Daily, and CCTV interviewed and reported on the scientific research results of the Engineering Center in the Wuling Mountain Area.
