South-Central Minzu University opened the computer software program in 1985, established the Department of Computer Science in 1989, and opened the computer application program in the same year. In 1998, the original two majors of the Computer Science and Technology Department were merged to form the Computer Science and Technology major. The School of Computer Science was established in 2000. After nearly 40 years of development, the college has formed a talent cultivation pattern with undergraduate education as the main body and rapid development of graduate education. It has become an innovative engineering college with the largest scale of education, the largest number of students, significant educational results, coordinated development of talent cultivation, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, international exchange and cooperation, and integrated promotion of industry, academia, research and application.
Adhere to the correct direction of education. The college adheres to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era, adheres to the Party's education policy and socialist direction of managing schools, thoroughly learns and implements General Secretary Xi Jinping's important thoughts on strengthening and improving the work of nationalities, and his important expositions on education, science and technology, and talents, adheres to the in-depth fusion of party building and business, and party building leads the cause of development, and focuses on the casting of the consciousness of the community of the Chinese nation, implementing the fundamental task of cultivating virtue and nurturing talents, adhering to the school motto of "faithfulness, eagerness to learn, natural generosity, and harmony", promoting the college culture of "dedication, sociality, and compatibility with innovation", and exploring a talent cultivation path of "solid foundation, good thinking, strong practice, and emphasis on innovation".
Strengthen the construction of disciplines and majors. The college currently offers seven undergraduate majors: Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Automation, Rail Transit Signal and Control, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation. There are currently two first level master's programs in computer science and technology, software engineering, and two engineering master's programs in computer technology and control engineering. The computer science and technology major and automation major have been approved as national first-class undergraduate major construction points. The computer science and technology major has passed the engineering certification of the Ministry of Education, and the discipline of computer science and technology has been approved as a key construction discipline of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission. It has also entered the C-grade in the fifth round of scientific evaluation by the Ministry of Education .
Adhere to equal emphasis on teaching and research. The college currently has 122 faculty members, 110 full-time teachers, 16 professors, 41 associate professors, 51 master's supervisors, and 3 doctoral supervisors. In recent years, two teams are selected as provincial and ministerial level teaching teams and six courses are selected as provincial-level first-class courses. The teachers have won six provincial and ministerial level teaching achievement awards, five provincial-level and above science and technology awards, published more than 400 high-level academic papers, undertaken 32 major projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and more than 60 provincial-level projects. The annual vertical and horizontal funds received are nearly ten million yuan. The college currently has 16000 square meters of office, experimental, and research buildings, as well as over 30 professional laboratories, studios, and research rooms. We have provincial and ministerial level scientific research platforms, including the Key Laboratory of Information Physics Integration and Intelligent Computing of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Hubei Province Intelligent Management Engineering Technology Research Center for Manufacturing Enterprises, and the Hubei Province Engineering Research Center for Agricultural Blockchain and Intelligent Management. We have established provincial and ministerial level teaching platforms, including Hubei Province Service Outsourcing Talent Training Base, Hubei Province Key Computer Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Hubei Province Graduate Workstation for Smart Agriculture, and Advanced Computing and Intelligent Optoelectronic Industry College. Adhering to the development of science and technology services for regional economy, emphasizing the integration of industry, academia, research and application, the achievements of smart agriculture have been transformed and promoted in 13 provinces, cities, and more than 50 counties and cities in the Wuling Mountain area and border areas, providing smart agriculture services to more than 200 demonstration bases, more than 3000 new agricultural entities, and over 100000 farmers.
Deepen international exchanges and cooperation. The college has established good cooperative relationships with well-known foreign universities such as Xavier University in Canada, Jeonbuk University in South Korea, University of Newcastle in Australia, and the La Crosse campus of Wisconsin State University in the United States. This provides a good platform for students to further continue their studies, update teaching concepts, improve educational effectiveness, and enhance academic level for teachers. The college and the University of Wisconsin Lacross campus in the United States have jointly trained a 3+2 software engineering master's degree for nearly 20 years. Through exploration and practice of international talent cultivation, they have achieved fruitful results in the quality of top-notch innovative talent cultivation, teaching and educational reform research, and education model demonstration and promotion. Graduates play an important role in related fields both domestically and internationally.
Highlight the cultivation of innovative talents. The college currently has over 2800 undergraduate and graduate students. The college focuses on strengthening the theoretical foundation of students, highlighting the cultivation of scientific and technological innovation talents, and organizing students to participate in the China "Internet plus" Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, "Challenge Cup" Entrepreneurship Plan Competition and Science and Technology Works Competition, ACM-ICPC International Undergraduate Programming Competition, National Mathematical Modeling Competition, National Undergraduate Smart Car Competition, National Undergraduate Electronic Design Competition, and "Blue Bridge Cup" National Software and Information Technology Professional Talent Competition, Microsoft's "Innovation Cup" Global Student Competition, Siemens Cup China Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge, China University Student Service Outsourcing Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, National Computer Simulation Competition, China Robot Competition, National Robot Championship and other national university student competitions. The students have repeatedly won provincial, national, and international awards. The college has established long-term cooperative relationships with well-known enterprises such as Huawei, Baidu, Tencent, and Kingsoft, and jointly built the Kunpeng & Shengteng Industry Education Integration Education Base. Every year, excellent students are selected to practice and train in enterprises. The student team has been selected as a national demonstration and practice team for the "Three Down to the Countryside" by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League. The "New Ideas" team has been selected as one of the first batch of Xiaoping science and technology innovation teams for college students by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League. The students have been honored with titles such as "Yangtze River Student" and "National College Student Entrepreneurship Hero". They have also been selected for the "3551" talent support program in Optics Valley. The students have published over 160 papers in A-class journals and conferences recommended by CCF. The one-time employment rate for undergraduate students in the college has reached over 96%, and the one-time employment rate for graduate students has reached 100%.
