The Experimental Class for Software Engineering Top Innovative Talents (hereinafter referred to as the Experimental Class) of South-Central Minzu University is a pilot project for reforming the education system approved by the State Council to implement the spirit of the “Outline of the National Medium- and Long-Term Educational Reform and Development Plan (2010-2020)”, and to explore the mode of cultivating innovative talents (see the “Circular of the General Office of the State Council on the Pilot Project for the Reform of the Education System” issued by the State Council under No. 48 of 2010). 2010] No. 48).

Relying on the high-quality educational resources of Central South University for Nationalities (CSUN) and the La Crosse Campus of the University of Wisconsin (UW), the experimental class focuses on the reform of the cultivation mode of top-notch and innovative talents in the field of software engineering, and completes the cultivation of undergraduate and master's degree students in five years by means of international cooperation.

Students in the experimental class will complete their undergraduate study in CSUN in the first three years. Students who complete the courses and credits required by the cultivation program and meet the requirements for graduation, and meet the conditions for bachelor's degree conferment of Central South University for Nationalities, will be awarded the certificate of graduation and bachelor's degree of engineering of Central South University for Nationalities upon graduation in the third year. If students meet the requirements of the U.S. master's degree program (GPA 3.0 and IELTS 6.0), they can complete their master's degree at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with the consent of the U.S. side. Students who have completed the courses and credits required by the U.S. side and meet the requirements for the award of master's degree can obtain the master's degree in software engineering from Wisconsin State University, La Crosse, U.S.A. in the fifth year.

The cultivation program of the experimental class is jointly developed by the Chinese and American sides, which aims to cultivate top-notch and innovative talents of software engineering with high scientific and technological cultural quality and innovation ability, solid software theoretical foundation, international vision, competitive awareness and team cooperation spirit, and capable of large and medium-sized complex software system development and management in an applied and composite way.

The undergraduate general courses and specialized courses of the experimental class will be offered by the relevant colleges, which will send teachers with doctoral degrees or associate professors or above to offer special courses for the experimental class in May every year, and the School of International Education of the University will send foreign teachers to offer English speaking courses for the experimental class.

The experimental class will select high-quality students from undergraduates with science background in Central South University for Nationalities, and select students with good foundation in mathematics and English, strong interest in software engineering study and research, active thinking, strong sense of innovation and active learning ability, and whose families have a certain economic foundation. The annual enrollment size is 40 students, with separate classes and management. The transfer of interdisciplinary students to other majors will be coordinated and arranged by the university.
