Automation Major of Central South Minzu University was established in 2002. It was approved as a "first-class undergraduate major construction site in Hubei Province" in 2020. It was awarded as a "national first-class undergraduate major construction site" and in 2021. In 2022, the master's degree program of "Control Engineering" was completed and enrolled. In 2023, the "Control Science and Engineering Teaching Group" based on Automation major was approved as an excellent grassroots teaching organization at the provincial level. The major adheres to the development concept of "Control Technology & Information Processing", relying on the platform of the "Hubei Provincial Key Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center" in the College of Computer Science, and has formed a deep interdisciplinary feature of Computer Science, Rail Transit, and Intelligent Manufacturing. Through systematic learning of the three major principles of mathematics, circuit, and control related to automation technology and practical training in hardware production, software design, and system development, students become versatile talents capable of solving complex engineering problems in the field of automation and adapting to the development of new technologies. The concept of "Student-centered, Output-oriented, and Continuous improvement" has been implanted into the process of talent cultivation of automation majors. The integrated cultivation model of "production, education, research, competition and application" has been established. Students are guided actively to engage in research projects and to participate in various extracurricular scientific and technological innovation competitions. Student practical activities have continuously received national, provincial and ministerial awards, including the first and second place in the "National College Student Intelligent Car Competition", the first prize in the national "College Student Electronic Design Competition", three Asian Silver Awards and one Bronze Award in the "ACM International College Student Programming Competition", and the second prize in the CIMC "Siemens Cup" China Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge. In the past three years, students have participated in 112 national, provincial, and regional level discipline competitions and awards, ranking the first place among the engineering majors in the university. Over the past 21 years since the establishment of Automation Major, more than 2700 outstanding undergraduate students have been trained. Their innovative thinking, teamwork awareness, and craftsmanship spirit have been highly praised by employers.
