To fully implement the “all-round education” requirements, adhere to the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, and uphold the guiding principle of strengthening the sense of community for the Chinese nation, the department of Computer Science has continued to deepen its Party-building brand, “Fostering Souls and Empowering the Nation through Digital Intelligence”. As a part of the Navigational Project under the Party-building leadership program, these efforts aim to enhance the comprehensive development of students. In early to mid-August 2024, the department of Computer Science conducted extensive summer home visits. By engaging in activities such as in-person visits, discussions, and support initiatives, the program sought to understand students’ living environments and summer study conditions, solve their real-life difficulties, promote traditional Chinese culture and strengthen the sense of community for the Chinese nation. These efforts also aimed to enhance the pertinence and effectiveness of the university’s ideological and political work.
From August 1 to August 7,key faculty members, including Cai Qiong, Standing Committee Member of the University Party Committee and Director of the United Front Work Department; Liu Hongjuan, Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Department; Wang Weifang, Deputy Secretary of the School of Computer Science Party Committee and Discipline Inspection Committee; and Su Zhijun, Class Counsellor for the 2023 cohort, conducted student home visits in Ningxia.
As the team approached the home of the student pseudonymously named Jianjun, his family, relatives, and friends were already waiting at the village entrance to greet them. The student’s parent, visibly moved, exclaimed, “Teachers, I am not well-educated, but I am deeply touched by your efforts to travel such a long distance to visit, care for, guide, and support my child!” Counsellor Su Zhijun provided a detailed account of the student’s daily performance and academic progress at school. Secretary Wang Weifang, considering the student’s learning and growth experience, family’s financial situation and the student’s personal challenges, explained the school’s policies on postgraduate studies and employment opportunities. She also addressed the student’s lack of motivation in learning by offering practical advice for personal growth. She emphasized: “Our school places great importance on academic planning and habit formation for underclassmen. Currently, the employment prospects for automation-related fields are promising, and postgraduate admission rates are high. Moving forward, the department will continue to monitor your academic progress. We encourage you to set ambitious goals and not settle for merely passing exams. Join platforms like the Virtual Simulation Lab and the Intelligent Car Lab, participate in academic competitions, strengthen your practical skills, foster innovation, focus on professional learning and strive to earn scholarships. So that, whether pursuing graduate studies or entering the workforce, you would better contribute to your hometown, nation, and society.”
After the visit, the student’s parents wrote a heartfelt letter of gratitude, expressing: “Every detail of your home visit made us feel the warmth and care of South-Central Minzu University. You not only care about our child’s academics but also his interests, psychological well-being, and future development. This all-encompassing care fills us with comfort and pride. It also reflects the educators’ sense of responsibility and mission, strengthening our trust in and support for the school’s educational work.”
